I have been completely captivated by the BBC production of Philippa Gregory's The White Queen. The War of the Roses, the Tudors and Stuarts ... my favourite period of English history. In the production there is an interpretation of Richard as he morphs from a beautiful, loyal young man to an increasingly bitter and twisted character... so I decided to record a bit of Shakey's version...

This was, is, and will probably always be my favourite opening line of a book. I'm a huge Dickens fan, and this story (in full) is one of his best. If you don't fancy a read, I highly recommend the Ronald Colman film...

Bee-killing pesticides have been banned - hooray! So, I thought this poem seemed appropriate. In the meantime, some people want to "control" i.e. cull/kill urban foxes ... please don't let them. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/33973

I adore this character... odd perhaps, but I always feel so sorry for him ... he isn't bad - just misunderstood. Caliban is a role I would love to play ... controversial? I don't think so ... just different.

I love, love, love this speech. I was doing some housekeeping and found it among some paperwork. The play was a favourite of mine when I was at drama school ... it hasn't lost its appeal.

It's the beginning of new year, a time for resolutions. People make reluctant promises to stop eating this, or stop drinking that ... that's all very well, but why make yourself miserable? Why not just remember the adage "everything in moderation". Well, that's my view anyway ... In the meantime - Happy New Year!

It's Christmas Eve ... I felt like recording something festive. I won't pretend I was familiar with this poem by Tennyson ... but it seems fitting. So, regardless of your religion, beliefs, creed or culture - Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays ... here's to a Happy New Year...

Ah, Moliere ... I wonder if this character's view of love can be applied to the modern man ...

This is a lady I would like to have met. Highly regarded not simply because of her literary talent, but because she was a wit, a social commentator, a humanitarian, and an activist. There is a lot I don't know about Dorothy Parker, but I intend to find out.
